The Mozart family lived from 1773 to 1787 in the "Tanzmeisterhaus" on today's Makartplatz. The Mozarts lived in what was, by the standards of the time, a spacious eight-room apartment on the first floor of the house. From 1711 dance lessons for nobles were held in this house and the young nobles were prepared for court life here.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived here until he finally moved to Vienna in 1781. His mother Anna Maria died in 1778 and his sister Nannerl married in 1784. Father Leopold stayed in the Tanzmeisterhaus until his death in 1787.

Unfortunately, a large part of the building was destroyed during World War II. It was later rebuilt true to the original by the International Mozarteum Foundation and reopened to the public as a museum on January 26, 1996. In the exhibition you will learn a lot of interesting things about the Mozart family. An audio guide that takes you through the exhibition is included in the admission price. The Mozart audio and film collection is also in the building, with 22,000 audio tracks and 2,800 video recordings on Mozart.

The museum is open daily from 9am to 5.30pm, in July and August from 8.30am to 7pm. Sound and film collection: Monday, Tuesday, Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday to Thursday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
