The Museum der Moderne Salzburg collects, preserves, researches, displays and communicates the art of the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum is a dynamic cultural forum in the center of Europe with international appeal and significance. It cultivates the interdisciplinary dialogue of the arts and, with its two locations on the Mönchsberg and in the Rupertinum in the old town, sees itself as a place of encounter and discussion.

Locations & Facilities

Two buildings provide the Museum der Moderne Salzburg with extensive exhibition space on a total of six levels. In 1983, the Rupertinum, an early Baroque building in the heart of Salzburg's Old Town, was opened. In 2004, the second location on the Mönchsberg followed. The Rupertinum houses the Generali Foundation Study Center as well as the libraries of the Generali Foundation and the Museum der Moderne Salzburg.

The former water tower on the Mönchsberg was reopened after renovation work in 2014 as the Amalie Redlich Tower with offices, workshop rooms and an artist's apartment. Since 2017, the museum's art depot has been located in Guggenthal (municipality of Koppl), not far from the city of Salzburg.

Opening hours
daily except Monday from 10 am - 6 pm.
On Wednesday, the museum is open until 8 pm.

During the Salzburg Festival also open on Mondays.
